The Consultation
At the Joshi Clinic, your osteopath will always take down a full and detailed case history, followed by a thorough physical examination. With your permission, they may communicate with your doctor to request lab tests or diagnostics imaging like x-rays if necessary. This initial consultation helps create a whole picture of your health and inform whether the cause of your discomfort relates to your spinal column, joints, soft tissues or organs. Watch the video.
After the initial consultation, your osteopath will create a personalised treatment plan using specific techniques most suited to your needs. This may include very gentle stretching and movement or “high velocity thrust” that osteopaths are known for. As preventative medicine specialists, they will also advise methods of minimising and avoiding strain and suggest lifestyle changes and simple exercises to optimise overall health. Sometimes your osteopath may also suggest other practitioners to maximise your treatment (e.g. acupuncturist, nutritionist).
Most patients receive maximum benefit from five to seven treatments; however, others may need ongoing treatment to maintain pain relief and mobility. For further details please call reception on 020 7487 5456 or email reception@joshiclinic.com.

-
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
One of Joshi’s favourite detox tools, this type of massage uses very light strokes to stimulate the movement of lymph fluid through the body. The lymphatic system is responsible for removing toxins from the blood and for delivering white blood cells to fight infection. We have found this type of massage particularly useful for managing swelling due to surgery or illness, and for supporting the immune system.
-
Swedish Massage
This whole-body massage uses oils to reduce friction and to nourish the skin. It is a good choice if you are looking to promote general relaxation. The client can work with the therapist to vary the intensity and focus on parts of the body that may need more attention.
-
Deep Tissue Massage
Like Swedish Massage only stronger, this type of massage uses strokes, kneading, stretches and other techniques to break down tissue adhesions, elongate shortened muscles and stimulate circulation. It can be focussed on certain areas to treat injuries or muscle tightness. As a whole-body massage, it is great for deep relaxation or post exercise soreness and heaviness.
-
Hot Stone Massage
The deep penetrating warmth from smooth, carefully heated basalt stones cannot be matched. When muscles are heated, they become more pliable and release stress more easily. This, combined with the focused pressure unique to hot stones, allows for very deep work if necessary. The warm stones are also carefully placed on the client’s body along certain meridians to increase relaxation. Hot stones can be added on as an extra to any of our other massages. Please enquire when booking.
-
Thai Massage
A combination of Chinese acupressure and Indian yoga stretches is carried out with the patient dressed in loose clothing either lying down or sitting on a comfortable mattress. The therapist uses fingers, hands, elbows, knees and feet to stretch the body and mobilise joints. In accordance with Thai medicine, the therapist works along meridians (energy lines) to help balance energy throughout the whole body. When booking please choose the length of the session (1 hr, 1.5 hrs, 2 hrs) and remember to wear light comfortable clothing that is easy to move in.
-
Reflexology
Reflexology works by applying targeted pressure to different points on the feet or hands. These points correspond to different organs and parts of the body because our nervous system is a highly-organised network with nerves travelling from our central nervous system all the way to our feet and hands. The stimulating of nerves in certain areas will help get energy flowing again and remove any blockages that may impair overall health.

Cupping
Joshi is passionate about cupping therapy because it’s a simple and effective tool that has been in practice for over 3,000 years. Simply put, rubber cups are heated and then placed on the body to create suction. Cupping is unique because tissue is lifted and moved as opposed to massage where the tissue is compressed down. The suction stimulates blood flow, the movement of Qi (energy) and the drawing out of toxins.
Cupping helps support the body to heal almost any issue including headaches, asthma and muscle tension. Our most popular conditions treated are to help break down adhesions, scar tissue, stretch marks and cellulite. It is also used to aid lymphatic drainage and smaller cups can be used on the face to reduce puffiness and improve the overall vitality of the skin. Please note that cupping will cause a feeling of warmth, suction, possible itchiness and may leave faint marks for a few days. These are not bruises and will fade within a couple of days.
To learn more about cupping and how it can be incorporated into any of our other treatments, please contact reception on 020 7487 5456 or email reception@joshiclinic.com.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment that has been used for thousands of years. By inserting very fine needles through the skin at different meridian points, this therapy stimulates the flow of energy or ‘Qi’ (pronounced “chi”). Therapeutic benefits are wide-ranging but most of our clients use acupuncture to treat pain, headaches, sleep issues or general stress and fatigue.
